OMBA Works to Assess and Rebuild after Tornadoes
OMBA-maintained trails suffered direct damage from the tornadoes and storms of May 11.
Currently, Arrowhead Park is closed indefinitely and may be take months to obtain ridable status again. The area around Lake Tobesofkee was hit hard by the tornado. Bibb County officials have reported the three parks around the lake may lose 70-80% of their trees for safety reasons.
While not hit as hard at Arrowhead, the Pig Trail received extensive damage as well. There are significant amounts of fallen trees and derailleur-snapping debris on the trail. Locals gathered on May 14 to begin the cleanup effort. Much was accomplished during the impromptu work party, but be careful while we continue to rehabilitate the Pig. Please use our forums to report any non-ridable sections.
Thomson Trails fared well and have already been cleared of fallen trees. East Macon status is currently unknown, so please check back as we hope to post an assessment soon.
